STAMFORD GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

State rooms, gardens and optional adventure play / NEAR STAMFORD

Burghley House and Gardens

Make Burghley the substantial visit of the day if grand interiors or gardens are your priority. The house has richly decorated rooms to explore, while the garden and play areas create a very different outdoor outing. Choose the admission combination that matches those interests; you do not have to see every part of the estate on one ticket.

The practical details

Where to find it

Tickets and booking
Advance booking is recommended for the parts you want to visit. House, gardens and adventure play have different ticket options; ordinary parkland access is separate and free when open. Check closures and do not confuse an event ticket with daytime admission.
Access and getting around
State Rooms are upstairs. The operator’s stairlift arrangements require an unaided transfer between wheelchair and lift; mobility scooters cannot go upstairs. Garden surfaces include gravel and uneven areas. Check the detailed access page before selecting your ticket.

Visiting with children
Hide & Secrets provides an outdoor alternative to a long room-by-room visit, including younger-child areas. Check ticket inclusions, the access map and the weather; do not assume a house ticket automatically buys every play activity.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 3–5 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
