Stamford Town Meadows

Leave the stone streets for some open space beside the Welland and its millstream. The Meadows are a place for a simple walk, a picnic or sitting with a view back towards the town. They make a useful interval between indoor visits, and can be the whole point of a short outdoor outing when conditions are good.

Before you go

Keep away from flooded ground and follow local closures. The riverbank setting is the attraction, but it also means a dry town pavement is not proof that the grass or waterside path is suitable.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary meadow access is free. Parking, food and organised events can have separate charges or restrictions. Check event notices if you want a quiet visit.
Access and getting around: Expect grass and paths with changing outdoor conditions, not an all-weather indoor route. Choose a short accessible approach that suits your group and check current local information; no whole-meadow step-free circuit is promised.

Visiting with children: Use a picnic or open-space break between town stops, with close supervision beside the water. The town’s equipped Recreation Ground is a different place; do not arrive at the Meadows expecting that playground.
