Stamford Town Hall tour

Join a volunteer-led tour to understand the town through its civic rooms and collections. The guided format gives a structure to a history visit and takes you into areas that are not normally freely open. Book a place on an advertised tour. Public tours run on Fridays within a stated season; passing the Town Hall on another day does not mean you can walk in and follow the tour independently.

Tickets and booking: Advertised public tours are free, with donations welcome, and require a booking for the chosen slot. Private group tours have separate arrangements. Verify the seasonal calendar and availability rather than relying on ordinary council office opening.
Access and getting around: The gaol portion includes low light, uneven stone floors and changes of level. Ask the council about the full route and any alternative before booking if you need step-free access or have concerns about dark spaces.

Visiting with children: An hour of guided listening is better suited to children who enjoy history than to a group needing active play. Ask about the gaol content and route if a child is sensitive to darkness or confined spaces.
