Stirling Old Bridge
Walk across the stone arches of the Old Bridge for a short encounter with the River Forth and Stirling’s strategic geography. The surviving bridge is later than Wallace’s 1297 battle, so enjoy it as an historic crossing near the battlefield rather than the bridge on which that battle was fought. It works as a brief outing from the lower city or a pause on a longer walk towards Causewayhead.

Before you go
Keep the river stop short if the weather is poor. The bridge is shared by pedestrians and cyclists, and a crossing is enough without committing to a long riverbank walk.

- Free to visit with no timed ticket. Follow local signs or any temporary restrictions, especially after severe weather. The castle and monument are separate paid attractions, and the river stop itself has no indoor shelter.
- Access and getting around
- The bridge is pedestrian and cycle-only. Historic paving and the rise over the arches need consideration. Check a suitable approach for your mobility needs and plan a toilet stop in the city before setting out.

- Watch for cycles and supervise children near the river. Looking at the arches from the approach and crossing slowly can be a more manageable history stop than another ticketed building. Keep balls and running games for the park.
