Stirling Old Town Jail
A performance-led visit introduces the people and punishments associated with Stirling’s Victorian jail, followed by time to explore independently. It offers a different pace from the castle: a concentrated story with an actor, then cells and displays. The optional observation tower adds an outdoor view for visitors who can manage the final stairs.

- Book the preferred time online and arrive ahead of it. A castle ticket does not include the jail. Check seasonal formats and the relaxed-tour calendar; allow longer than the short actor performance for the independent section. Visitor parking is for the visit and gates close at the advertised time.
- Access and getting around
- The main performance route uses the ground-floor corridor and larger rooms, but narrow cell doors limit access. The access guide lists a lift to the third floor; the final tower still requires spiral stairs and parts of the yard have steps. Accessible toilets and respite seats are available. Ask staff which upper areas your party can reach.

- The operator describes the performance as humorous rather than gruesome, but prison themes, sound effects and participation still need a family judgement. A relaxed self-guided session uses neutral lighting and reduced ambient sound. Check its current booking slot rather than assuming every tour is relaxed.
