Swanage Museum and Heritage Centre
This small free museum beside The Square makes sense of Swanage beyond the sand. Displays explain the Purbeck stone trade, the town’s Victorian transformation and the geology of the surrounding coast. The story of architectural pieces brought back from London gives you details to look for when you return to the streets.
The regular April–October schedule excludes Wednesdays and has a shorter Sunday. Check winter arrangements before travelling specifically for the museum.

- General entry is free, with donations welcome. The stated season runs April to the end of October, normally Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with Sunday opening too; contact the museum for off-season visits.
- Access and getting around
- The museum’s own website confirms wheelchair access. Public toilets are nearby rather than inside the museum. The separately located Swanage History Centre has different access arrangements; it is not this visitor museum.
