Castle Hill and Tenby Castle remains

Climb Castle Hill for sea views and the surviving fragments of Tenby’s castle. The appeal is the headland setting and the outline of the old fortified port, rather than a furnished castle with rooms to tour. It pairs naturally with the museum nearby, while a short visit on its own gives a useful sense of the town’s coastline.

Treat this as an exposed hilltop stop. In strong wind or heavy rain, save it for better conditions; do not add it simply because you are close to the museum.

Tickets and booking: No ticket is required for an ordinary public Castle Hill walk. Follow any temporary restrictions and choose daylight and suitable weather. This is not admission to St Catherine’s Island or its fort, which is a different site.
Access and getting around: The approach climbs from the harbour area and paths vary in level. No complete step-free circuit has been verified. Stay on established paths and away from cliff edges and unstable remains; ask locally about suitable approaches if needed.

Visiting with children: A short viewpoint visit for families, with close supervision on the headland. Explain that these are castle remains, not a large indoor castle or play structure. The museum is a separate paid visit.
