Tenby South Beach

South Beach offers the longer stretch of sand, backed by dunes and looking towards Caldey Island. Choose it when the beach itself is the main outing rather than a quick gap between town attractions. Start at the Tenby end and turn back when you want; you do not need to walk the entire length or continue to Penally.

Before you go

Do not depend on walking around to Castle Beach: the connection is exposed only at low tide. Use an established land route back and leave energy for soft sand and the return walk.

Tickets and booking: No general admission charge. Check RNLI patrol information, tide and weather, local notices and seasonal dog-restriction zones. This guide suggests time on the sand; water sports and equipment hire need separate suitability checks.
Access and getting around: The National Park describes a wooden walkway that can be sand-covered and becomes steep. Beach surfaces change. The separate Penally approach has its own railway crossing and soft-sand section; it is not the route recommended here.

Visiting with children: Good for a longer sandcastle-and-picnic outing when conditions suit. Choose one accessible exit and keep it in sight of your plan, supervise children by the sea and do not assume lifeguards patrol the full year or entire shoreline.
