Coastal walk / TORQUAY
Babbacombe Downs
Enjoy the high promenade, lawns and views over the coast from Babbacombe Downs. This is the place to pause above the bay, with seating and room for a short walk without committing to the steep routes down to the beaches. It works as the free second half of a Babbacombe visit.

Stay at the top for a gentler outing. The beach paths and cliff railway are separate decisions: do not walk down assuming a train will bring you back up.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Babbacombe Downs Road, TQ1 3LP
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- No booking for the public Downs. Food, parking, theatre performances and the cliff railway are separate purchases. Use daylight and appropriate weather; advertised events are not everyday features of the promenade.
- Access and getting around
- The clifftop promenade offers a shorter option than the steep beach descents, but approaches from Torquay harbour involve a substantial climb. Consider a bus or taxi to Babbacombe. Check local paths and surfaces for your needs; avoid exposed edges in strong wind.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Keep children close on the cliff side. A short lookout stop and lunch may be enough after the model village. Do not promise a beach descent or cliff-railway ride without checking operation and return arrangements separately.
Practical information checked 14 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Make it part of your day
Allow 30–60 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
