TORQUAY GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Caves / TORQUAY

Kents Cavern

See limestone formations and discover the prehistoric story of Torquay in the underground chambers at Kents Cavern. This is a sheltered geological visit in the Ilsham area, away from the harbour. Standard cave entry is now self-guided, with an optional guided-tour upgrade; choose the experience you want when booking.

The practical details

Where to find it

Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Online booking is recommended because capacity is limited. Standard cave entry takes about an hour; allow extra for arrival and facilities. Confirm guided-tour times, holiday opening and the ticket type directly rather than assuming an old all-guided description applies.
Access and getting around
The route has concrete surfaces but also steep gradients, narrow sections and nine shallow steps. Wheelchair access stops at the first chamber; a visitor-centre film provides an alternative. Standard pushchairs can pass, but double and all-terrain pushchairs cannot. Contact staff about individual needs before booking.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Caves can be dark and unfamiliar for younger children. Explain the underground setting, bring a layer and wear shoes with grip. Under-threes are admitted free under current standard terms. The woodland trail is an outdoor extra; toilets are outside the cave.

Practical information checked 14 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 1–2 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
