Fullarton Woods

Swap the open coast for mature woodland, with paths, carved details and places to stop for a picnic. The Championship Garden and wildlife-themed features give a short walk a focus, while the wider paths allow a longer outing if the group wants one. It is a useful different setting within the Troon area.

Before you go

Fullarton House was demolished; the surviving historic features are not an open stately-home visit. Choose the woodland paths and interpretation for their own interest.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary woodland access is free. Check current facilities and events with the community stewards. The long Smugglers’ Trail passes through the woods, but following it to Dundonald needs a proper walking plan and is not a quick castle transfer.
Access and getting around: Main paths have comparatively good access, but the entire woodland network is not uniformly level or firm. Mud, roots and weather can change conditions. Ask about the route that suits a wheelchair or pram rather than assuming every path is appropriate.

Visiting with children: Look for carvings, wildlife rubbing posts and the play area near the parkland. Take a small route first, keeping children clear of fragile historic remains and any work areas.
