Tynemouth Aquarium

Take time with the aquarium displays and choose a talk or feed from the day’s programme. It makes a useful weather-flexible anchor near the northern end of Longsands, with a visit that can stay focused rather than filling the whole day. Some outdoor areas extend the experience when conditions suit.

Before you go

The main aquarium is indoors, but Seal Cove, the play area and seal hospital are outside. Bring a waterproof if those parts matter to your visit.

Tickets and booking: Paid entry, with online and arrival ticket options described in the operator FAQ. Check current opening, ticket validity and talk times; it normally opens daily except Christmas Day.
Access and getting around: The operator’s group risk assessment describes ground-floor access, some stepped viewing areas and an alternative view of the main exhibit from the tunnel end. There is no lift to the upper workshop floor. Discuss your particular route and needs before travel.

Visiting with children: Choose one scheduled talk and allow time to pause at tanks rather than rushing to see every feed. Supervise children around exhibits and remember that outdoor seal areas are a separate weather consideration.
