Wells Quay and harbour
The quay gives Wells-next-the-Sea its everyday focus: fishing boats, harbour traffic and a broad view over tidal channels and marsh. Look back at the granary above the road, then turn into Staithe Street for the shops and cafés. This is a good first stop for understanding the town before setting off for the much more distant beach.

Before you go
Keep the quay and beach as separate stages of your day. The beach bank is a substantial outward walk, and an evening meal in town still leaves you the return journey if you stay by the sand.

- No admission ticket is needed for a walk on the public quay. Parking, refreshments and any separately booked boat trip cost extra; check the trip’s actual boarding point and tide-dependent departure.
- Access and getting around
- Roads, harbour edges and working areas need care. Choose a short section of public quayside and allow for busy pavements; this description does not extend to pontoons, boat gangways or the beach sand.

- Watching boats is an easy short family stop. Keep children alongside you near the water and clear of working harbour areas; a café break can be more manageable than adding the whole beach walk.
