Wells Cathedral
The scissor arches, astronomical clock and carved west front give the cathedral several distinct things to look for. Allow time to explore the main floor and the Undercroft exhibition, with the Chapter House an optional climb for visitors who can manage the worn stairs. A Highlights Tour or audio tour can help connect the building’s details without needing to read every label.
Check the closures-and-restrictions page before choosing your date. Services, weddings, graduations and festivals can restrict sightseeing, including some whole days.

- Sightseeing is paid, with a Highlights Tour or audio tour and Undercroft exhibition included under the standard admission offer. Ordinary tickets allow return visits for 12 months, subject to terms and restrictions. Prayer, worship and lighting a candle are free, but this does not provide a free sightseeing visit. Joint Palace day tickets and specialist tours have separate conditions.
- Access and getting around
- The visitor entrance is level; a ramp with a handrail leads from the West Cloister towards the Nave. Paving can be uneven. The Chapter House has 31 worn steps and the Library has 28 narrow spiral steps. A lift serves the Loft, two accessible toilet blocks are listed, and loan wheelchairs should be reserved.

- Choose the arches, clock and a few details before adding a longer tour. Ask about current family resources. Children aged 5–17 currently need sightseeing tickets unless covered by a qualifying accompanied-passholder concession; under-fives are free. Check specialist-tour age and stair requirements separately.
