Local produce & browsing / WELLS
Wells Market
On its regular market days, Market Place fills with stalls selling food, produce and a changing selection of other goods. Browse at your own pace, choose something for lunch or a later picnic, and take in the gateways and buildings around the square. On a non-market day it is still a useful part of a town walk, but the stalls are not a daily attraction.

Aim for Wednesday or Saturday if the regular market is your main reason to come. Selected Sunday events are a separate programme, not an every-Sunday market.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Market Place, Wells BA5 2RB
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- Browsing needs no admission ticket; purchases cost extra. The regular council market runs Wednesday and Saturday, currently 9am–3pm. Check current notices and trader attendance, especially in poor weather or around holidays. The pilot Sunday markets and Christmas events have their own dates.
- Access and getting around
- The square is paved, with historic surfaces, kerbs and routes that become narrower around stalls and crowds. Leave extra time with a wheelchair or pushchair, and ask the council about current parking or drop-off arrangements. Individual stalls differ in their layout; do not assume an unobstructed route across the square.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Give children a small browsing goal and agree a food budget before arriving. Stay together in the busier aisles and check ingredients directly with each trader. A stall meal may not provide seating or shelter, so keep a café or packed-lunch alternative in the plan.

Make it part of your day
Allow 30–60 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
