Whitstable Museum

The museum connects Whitstable’s oyster fishing and diving history with its early railway, including the historic Invicta locomotive. A fire pump, local collections and Peter Cushing material add variety to a compact indoor visit on Oxford Street.

Check the opening day before travelling: normal opening is Thursday to Saturday, with Wednesdays added in school holidays.

Tickets and booking: General adult admission is paid, with free entry for eligible local CT1–CT6 residents and students with a card. Normal hours are 10.30am–4.30pm; Christmas and additional dates vary. No café, though courtyard picnics are allowed.
Access and getting around: Displays are on one floor. The main entrance has two low steps; an alternative wheelchair entrance is beside it at pavement level. There are no visitor toilets or baby-changing facilities; public toilets are around 50 metres away in Skinners Alley.

Visiting with children: Under-19s enter free and under-13s must be accompanied. Trails, dressing up and other hands-on activities give younger visitors ways into the collection.
