Worcester Cathedral

Worcester’s cathedral brings royal history, medieval craftsmanship and a working place of worship into one visit. Look for King John’s tomb, the changing rhythm of the arches and the cloister before deciding whether to explore further. Its position beside the city centre makes it a natural first stop; the main interior deserves time even when the tower is closed.

Before you go

Enter through the North Porch in College Yard. The south-side and west entrances are currently unavailable; a walk around the outside is not a shortcut into the building.

Tickets and booking: General visiting is free, with a suggested donation. Services and events can restrict areas, and Sunday sightseeing is shorter. The tower has limited published dates, weather-dependent operation and tickets sold at the Welcome Desk on the day in 2026; check its own page rather than assuming daily access.
Access and getting around: A sloping North Door approach leads to the level nave, with ramps to the cloister and quire. The crypt, tower and library have no wheelchair access. A RADAR-key accessible toilet and baby changing are off the cloister; spare keys are available from staff. Limited Blue Badge spaces require advance booking.

Visiting with children: The main interior works for a short, selective family visit. The separately paid tower has 235 narrow spiral steps; under-eights are not permitted and children must climb independently. Choose the nave and cloister if stairs or enclosed spaces would spoil the outing.
