Fort Royal Park
Fort Royal adds an uphill outdoor chapter to a day in Worcester. The park’s Civil War associations connect naturally with The Commandery, while views back towards the cathedral help put the centre in perspective. Play areas and space for a pause make it useful after time indoors. Choose it when your party wants fresh air and has enough energy for the gradients.
Plan the entrance as well as the distance. Some approaches use steps and others steep slopes, so the closest-looking route may not suit a wheelchair or pushchair.

- Free public park, with no ordinary admission booking. Check council notices and conditions before making it the main family stop. Allow more time on wet paths, and keep the hill optional in heavy rain or if mobility and energy levels make it unsuitable.
- Access and getting around
- The council-linked access survey records stepped and sloping entrances, including a steep Fort Royal Hill approach. The Royal Albert Close entrance is step-free, but paths and play-area approaches still vary in gradient. Review the full access map for your route; a step-free gate does not mean a level park.

- The council describes separate play opportunities for younger and older children, including climbing and slides. Keep an adult nearby and choose equipment for the child’s ability. Take a snack and organise a toilet stop in the centre before walking uphill.
