Footdee and the seafront

Explore the public lanes of Footdee, locally known as Fittie, and add a chosen section of the seafront if conditions suit. The former fishing community’s cottages and small squares offer a different perspective on Aberdeen from the city-centre streets. It remains a residential neighbourhood, so keep the visit quiet and respect homes, doors and private spaces.

Before you go

Keep the coastal stretch flexible. The beachfront is undergoing redevelopment, so follow current access signs and do not plan around facilities that have not yet opened.

Where to find it: Footdee at the southern end of Aberdeen Beach

Tickets and booking: No admission ticket for public-street or promenade walking. Parking and food are separate. Respect residential privacy and current construction signs; the former beach leisure centre is not an available visitor facility.
Access and getting around: Public lanes and seafront surfaces vary, and works may change connections. Check the approach you need; the beach itself is not equivalent to the promenade for access.

Visiting with children: Look at the cottage details from public paths and keep children close near roads and harbour edges. A short seafront pause can be enough in wind; do not promise swimming or wildlife sightings.
