This is a distinct part of the city north of the central shopping streets, with a different scale and atmosphere. St Machar’s Cathedral can be an optional visit during its visitor hours, around services.
Explore the public lanes of Footdee, locally known as Fittie, and add a chosen section of the seafront if conditions suit. The former fishing community’s cottages and small squares offer a different perspective on Aberdeen from the city-centre streets. It remains a residential neighbourhood, so keep the visit quiet and respect homes, doors and private spaces.
Pair the indoor plant collections of the David Welch Winter Gardens with as much of Duthie Park as the weather allows. The glasshouses give the outing a clear focus, while the surrounding paths and play areas leave room for a slower break outdoors. This is a separate city outing south of the centre, not simply a garden beside the Art Gallery.
