Old Aberdeen heritage walk
Choose a public-street walk through Old Aberdeen, taking time for the architecture around King’s College, the High Street and the Chanonry. This is a distinct part of the city north of the central shopping streets, with a different scale and atmosphere. St Machar’s Cathedral can be an optional visit during its visitor hours, around services.

Choose a short section or the longer heritage route before starting. Looking at a university building from outside does not imply public access to every interior or courtyard.

- Public-street walking is free. Cathedral services, university access and optional venues have their own arrangements; respect private and teaching spaces. Check current transport rather than relying on old bus numbers printed in trail leaflets.
- Access and getting around
- Expect cobbles, crossings, slopes and variable surfaces. Plan a route around your mobility needs and check any indoor venue separately. St Machar’s is about two miles north of the centre, so account for the journey as well as the walk.

- Use a few architectural details as a spotting activity and leave room for a snack. Keep the route shorter for children who are less interested in buildings, rather than making the full trail a requirement.
