A short funicular ride above the bay / ABERYSTWYTH

Aberystwyth Cliff Railway and Constitution Hill

The funicular climbs from the northern end of the promenade to Constitution Hill, turning the familiar seafront into a wide view of the town and Cardigan Bay. Leave time at the top for a gentle look around rather than treating the railway as a quick photograph stop. The camera obscura offers a different way to examine the surrounding landscape when open.

Before you go

Check the final descent before exploring the summit. Railway fares, camera obscura entry, games and refreshments are separate decisions.

Where to find it: Cliff Terrace, Aberystwyth SY23 2DN, at the north end of the promenade.

Tickets and booking: No advance booking is normally required. Current usual service is April–October, with limited winter running; check the latest notice and weather before travel. The camera obscura has its own opening and adult entry charge. Food and games may cost extra.
Access and getting around: The operator lists ramped access at the lower station, wheelchair-friendly trains, a lift at the upper station and suitable summit paths. Contact the railway if lift availability or adapted-vehicle parking is essential; the hillside walking route is a different proposition.

Visiting with children: The ride provides a short main attraction for children, with a play area and optional games at the summit. Keep close on the hillside and check which extras suit your children. Choose a return ticket if walking down would make the day too tiring.
