Aberystwyth Promenade and North Beach
The promenade follows the curve of the bay past the pier and bandstand towards Constitution Hill. Choose a short out-and-back, watching the buildings and sea change with your viewpoint, or link it with the castle grounds. You can enjoy the shore from the walkway without turning the outing into a beach descent or a long coastal hike.
North Beach’s published 2026 lifeguard season ended on 6 September. A seaside walk does not imply supervised swimming; check tides, weather and local advice before going onto the beach.

- Walking is free, with food, amusements and transport separate. On-street seafront parking charges began in May 2026, so read current signs. Follow closures or diversions in rough conditions and do not approach waves breaking over the promenade.
- Access and getting around
- The promenade offers a surfaced route, while beach access uses slipways or steps onto sand, shingle and rocks. Keep to a section that suits your group, allowing for temporary works and diversions. Beach terrain and the uphill route beyond the promenade are separate access choices.

- Make a bench, snack or the bandstand area a turnaround rather than insisting on the whole seafront. Keep children close beside the sea wall and crossings. Check the RNLI’s actual patrol dates and flags if planning water activities.
