ARUNDEL GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Gothic Revival cathedral / ARUNDEL

Arundel Cathedral

Climb through the town to the cathedral and spend time with the height, stonework and stained glass of its nineteenth-century interior. This is a working Catholic cathedral, distinct from the castle and its Fitzalan Chapel. A quiet half hour can fit between a museum visit and lunch, or form the turning point of an uphill town walk.

Before you go

Check the current parish notice before travelling and leave room to move your visit around worship, funerals or rehearsals. The Carpet of Flowers is a special annual event, not a permanent display.

The practical details

Where to find it
London Road, Arundel BN18 9AY
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Ordinary visits are donation-supported; concerts and special events may have separate arrangements. Confirm the day’s visiting window with the parish, particularly around services. Contact the office ahead for an organised group or specific access requirements.
Access and getting around
The approach from the lower town is uphill. Sussex’s official visitor listing identifies ramp/level access; contact the cathedral office for the entrance and facilities that suit your needs, especially for a group. Plan the climb separately from access inside, and use a vehicle drop-off if that makes the visit manageable.

Visiting with children
Keep the visit short enough for quiet looking: choose a window or an architectural detail to find. It is a place of worship, so save active play for an outdoor stop. Check services and any special family event separately.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 30–60 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
