Swanbourne Lake

Walk beside Swanbourne Lake below the wooded slopes of Arundel Park, taking time for reflections, trees and a seat near the water. The short lake circuit is around 1.5km and works as a modest outing of its own. Longer signed walks continue into hillier countryside, so choose the lake route if you want a gentle-paced break rather than a hike.

Before you go

Allow roughly 20–30 minutes each way from the lower town along Mill Road, in addition to time at the lake. Turn back on the same route if the path is muddy or your group has had enough.

Tickets and booking: The walk does not require an attraction ticket. The tearoom and seasonal rowing-boat hire cost extra; the operator advertises boats from March to October but asks visitors to check the day’s service. Do not assume boats will be running when the tearoom is open.
Access and getting around: Paths and edges vary; inspect conditions before committing to a complete circuit, particularly after rain. The longer Arundel Park loop includes hills and a stile and is a different route. Public toilets are listed at Swanbourne Lodge; confirm they are open before relying on them. Ask the tearoom about its current access if needed.

Visiting with children: Supervise closely by the open water and keep to paths. Bring an extra layer and a snack if café timings do not fit. Watching wildlife is enough; follow current notices about feeding. Boat hire is optional and should be checked for weather, age and boarding requirements.
