Brecon Canal Basin and Towpath

Begin at the basin and follow the towpath only as far as suits your day. Boats and historic bridges give interest close to town, while a longer walk reaches the Brynich Aqueduct over the Usk. The shorter version pairs naturally with lunch or a theatre visit; the full return is a proper walk rather than a quick detour between museums.

Before you go

The official route to Brynich Aqueduct is 3.5km or 2.2 miles one way. Returning to the basin doubles that distance; choose an earlier turning point for a short outing.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary towpath walking is free. Boat trips, refreshments and parking are separate; this card does not include or guarantee a cruise departure.
Access and getting around: The operator describes a surfaced towpath, but entrances, bridges, widths and temporary works can affect access. Check current notices and pick a suitable section; waterside paths do not have continuous protective barriers.

Visiting with children: Supervise closely beside water and locks and share the path with other users. A bridge or picnic stop near town is a better goal for many children than the full aqueduct return.
