Brecon Promenade

Choose the promenade for a different waterside setting from the canal: the River Usk, open meadow and benches make it a useful place to pause. You can keep to a short surfaced section or add time in the meadow and play area. Let the conditions and your party decide the distance instead of following every path farther upriver.

Before you go

The town-side approaches cross short, steep flood embankments. The route can flood after heavy rain, and the continuation beyond the meadow becomes rougher and narrower.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary walking is free. Parking, seasonal refreshments and boat hire have separate costs and opening arrangements; check local notices.
Access and getting around: The National Park describes a flat surfaced circuit near the Promenade car park, but steeper approaches from town and later kissing gates or uneven paths. Choose the entry and section that match your needs; check flood conditions.

Visiting with children: A picnic and play stop can balance museum time. Keep children away from the river and weir, and do not enter flooded sections or assume boat hire is operating.
