The museum and gallery occupy the former Shire Hall alongside a modern library, giving you several ways to spend an indoor hour or two. Look for the courtroom and choose the collections that interest your party rather than assuming every temporary display will still be on during your visit.

Museum and library opening hours are different. The museum’s last entry is currently half an hour before closing, so an open building does not guarantee admission to the galleries.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary museum and gallery admission is free. Check current exhibitions and event charges separately. Current museum hours are 10am–4.30pm weekdays and 10am–4pm weekends, with last entry 30 minutes earlier.
