Seasonal outdoor play and miniature railways / NEAR CAERNARFON
Gypsy Wood Park
At Bontnewydd, outside Caernarfon, Gypsy Wood is a child-led outing of outdoor play, animals and model railways. The garden railway and fairy hunt give children things to look for between active play areas. Leave room for repeated favourites and a picnic, rather than fitting the park into the gap after a long castle or heritage-railway visit.

The 2026 season ends on 27 September; the 20 September quiet session is not open to the general public. The operator has announced no Halloween or Christmas opening and plans to reopen on 20 March 2027.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Bontnewydd, Gwynedd LL55 2YA, outside Caernarfon; a separate journey from the town centre.
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- Check the dated calendar before buying. Woody’s timed train ride and some activities cost extra; rides have limited spaces. The small indoor play area does not make this an all-weather park. Arrange transport out and back rather than expecting a short town-centre walk.
- Access and getting around
- Slate paths, slopes and some awkward sections require care; the wetland walk may not suit wheelchairs or buggies. Accessible toilets with baby changing and parking near the entrance are listed. Contact the park about assistance and train boarding; no loan wheelchairs are available.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Walking toddlers require the appropriate ticket; non-walking babies do not. Woody’s ride is an extra ticket for each rider, and under-15s must ride with an adult. Bring a picnic for designated areas, away from animal contact zones; supervise children by ponds and wash hands after animals.
Practical information checked 14 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Make it part of your day
Allow 3–4 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
