Caerphilly Castle
Give the castle enough time for both its scale and its stories. The Great Hall and digital interpretation add indoor interest to an outing that still includes exposed courtyards, walls and the setting beside the lakes. Choose a route that suits your group rather than feeling obliged to reach every tower or staircase.

Read Cadw’s latest visitor notice before setting off. Payment arrangements and available routes can change, and a ticket to a partly indoor castle is not a promise of an entirely sheltered day.

- Check current admission, concessions, last entry and event arrangements. Cadw currently warns of intermittent payment-system issues, so check accepted payment before arrival. Town parking is separate and normal admission is paid.
- Access and getting around
- Contact the castle team about a suitable route. Historic stairs, narrow corridors and changing light levels affect some areas; accessible toilets are provided on the ground floor behind the Great Hall. Upper points may close in high winds.

- Let children choose a few defensive features or stories to follow, with close supervision beside water and on steps. Leave time for lunch and avoid making every tower compulsory.
