Use the park for a change of pace when the family needs open space more than another history stop. Play, a picnic and a short wander can form a worthwhile outing by themselves, or a relaxed second part of a castle day. Keep expectations around ordinary park use rather than assuming a programmed event is happening.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary public park access is free. Organised activities and sports bookings have separate arrangements. Check current local notices; seasonal splash facilities and advertised event dates are not everyday guarantees.
Access and getting around: Ask the council about the entrance, surfaces and equipment relevant to your needs. The council’s improvement programme is adding inclusive equipment, but it does not establish that every activity or route suits every visitor.
