A hill walk for a clearer day / CAERPHILLY
Caerphilly Mountain
Choose the mountain when fresh air and a wider view matter more than another indoor stop. A manageable walk from an appropriate starting point can contrast with the town below, but the exposed setting and paths deserve preparation even on a relatively short outing. Let visibility and the group’s confidence decide how far you go.

Plan the starting point and safe crossings before travelling. A short distance on a map from town can hide a steep climb or awkward roads; a snack-bar stop does not make the surrounding paths accessible.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Caerphilly Mountain, south of Caerphilly; plan your chosen route
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- Ordinary walking is free, while travel, parking arrangements and food are separate. Check a current map, forecast and daylight before setting off; do not rely on a longer historic route description without assessing conditions.
- Access and getting around
- Expect sloping, rough or muddy paths and exposed conditions. Do not assume a pushchair or wheelchair route; choose a suitable alternative in town if necessary. Nearby roads can be busy and need careful crossings.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Choose a distance children can manage, bring layers and water, and turn back if the weather worsens. Views are not guaranteed in low cloud, so avoid promising a summit panorama as the only reward.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Make it part of your day
Allow 45–90 minutes for a short walk, excluding transfer for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
