Cambridge University Botanic Garden

Plant collections, mature trees and changing seasonal detail make this an absorbing green interval south of the historic centre. Follow a few garden sections at your own pace, with a bench stop instead of a race to every label. The glasshouses add interest, but the journey through the garden remains largely outdoors.

Before you go

Choose your gate before arriving: the Station Road Gate suits the railway-station side, while Brookside works for the walk towards the Fitzwilliam. Shorter winter opening means an afternoon visit needs an earlier start.

Tickets and booking: Walk-up tickets are available and online booking is optional for ordinary visits. Special events have separate arrangements. There is no public garden car park.
Access and getting around: Most routes avoid steps, but gravel, narrow heritage glasshouse passages and some bark paths affect access. Borrowing a mobility aid can be arranged in advance with the garden, specifying the collection gate.

Visiting with children: Children aged 16 and under have free standard garden entry, with paying adults unless another exemption applies. Children must stay with adults; this is a plant collection, with no ball games, scooters or tree climbing.
