Bute Park

Behind the castle, mature trees and the River Taff open out into a substantial park. Look for the tree trails, carvings and planted areas, or simply find a short circuit that fits the rest of your day. This is a useful change of pace after the castle or museum, without leaving central Cardiff.

Before you go

Use the park map to choose a short return walk rather than drifting towards Blackweir without allowing time back. Gate closing changes with daylight and event areas may affect routes.

Access and getting around: The official map distinguishes hard surfaces, stone dust and informal earth paths. Choose a suitable entrance and surface, ask about current restrictions and do not assume every riverside path forms a step-free circuit.

Visiting with children: Natural play features and a woodland balance trail offer an active break. Supervise beside the river and on shared paths; a brief tree or sculpture hunt can be enough.
