Cardiff Castle

A Norman keep rises above the lawns, while the castle house offers a very different encounter with Victorian imagination. Choose the rooms, wartime shelters and walls that interest you instead of treating the keep climb as the whole visit. The contrast between defensive stonework and lavish decoration makes this a strong introduction to Cardiff.

Decide whether the House Tour upgrade matters before allocating your time. Keep steps can be slippery in rain; the apartment and keep routes are unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Tickets and booking: Check current admission and tour options. Guided House Tours are an upgrade, booked at the ticket office. Free Public Square access does not include the full paid castle experience.
Access and getting around: The grounds and Visitor Centre have level access, with a lift in the centre. The apartment rooms and Norman Keep require steps and are not wheelchair- or pushchair-accessible. The approach includes cobbles.

Visiting with children: Choose a manageable selection of rooms and stories; supervise on steep steps. Families avoiding stairs can use the grounds and accessible Visitor Centre, but will miss some headline interiors.
