DERRY GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Community history and the transition towards peace / DERRY

Peacemakers Museum

Visit the Gasyard Centre museum for the story of the Bogside and the movement from conflict towards the peace process. Its focus on the period from 1972 to 2007 complements, rather than duplicates, the earlier events explored at the Museum of Free Derry. This is a visit for understanding local experiences and the difficult choices behind political change.

Before you go

Give the displays enough time and leave room afterwards to reflect. Two modern-history museums in one day can be rewarding, but they need more attention than a rapid sightseeing circuit. The photograph shows the surrounding Bogside area from the city walls; it does not show the Peacemakers Museum building or interior.
