Gardens, play and woodland beside the old centre / DUNFERMLINE
Pittencrieff Park
Take a break in the Glen, the large public park beside Dunfermline’s heritage quarter. Choose gardens and a play area for a gentle pause, or follow a longer signed walk towards the wooded valley. Views back towards the abbey give the landscape a close connection to the city rather than making this a separate countryside excursion.

The glasshouses are currently closed. Plan an outdoor visit, with a short route you can enjoy in the available weather and daylight.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Pittencrieff Street and heritage-quarter entrances, Dunfermline KY12 8QH
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- Ordinary public park access is free. Food, transport and some events are separate costs. Follow current signs and closures, including the glasshouse closure, and do not assume Pittencrieff House or other historic buildings are routinely open inside.
- Access and getting around
- The park contains a network of paths and a lower wooded glen; one entrance or surfaced path does not establish an entirely level circuit. Use the council map to choose suitable gradients and check current surfaces, toilets and any assistance needed. Allow for the return climb if heading down towards the burn.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Three play areas give families choices near the Pittencrieff Street and Nethertown approaches. Choose one before starting a long walk, keep children close near the burn and leave space for wildlife. A picnic and play can be the whole afternoon.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
