Durham University Botanic Garden
Trade the stone peninsula for planted landscapes, woodland and glasshouses on the university’s southern side. This visit suits people who enjoy looking closely at plants as well as walking between them. Use the garden as the main outdoor part of a half-day with the nearby Oriental Museum, leaving room for a rest.
Ordinary visitors should enter at the Visitor Centre. The Howlands kiosk entrance uses swipe-card access for eligible holders; being beside Park and Ride does not make it a general ticket entrance.

- General adult admission is paid; check concessions and children’s eligibility. Payment is card only. If using the small Visitor Centre car park, register your vehicle at reception. Winter hours and the Christmas shutdown differ.
- Access and getting around
- The Visitor Centre and glasshouses have wheelchair access, but some other garden paths are steep and unsuitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Read the access statement and choose a smaller route if needed.

- Children can choose plants, woodland areas or glasshouses to explore. Check current trail availability; the wider garden is outdoors, so bring suitable shoes and keep an indoor alternative.
