Ely Cathedral
Stand beneath the Octagon before exploring the long nave and Lady Chapel. The scale changes as you move through the building, so leave time to look upwards and then sit for a while. A ground-floor visit is substantial on its own; a guided tower climb is an additional commitment with stairs, age restrictions and a weather-dependent roof section.
Check the dated visitor restrictions before choosing your travel day: services, rehearsals and private events can close sections or stop sightseeing altogether. The Stained Glass Museum sometimes remains open during a cathedral closure.

- Sightseeing is normally paid. Advance booking is recommended, with tickets also sold on arrival; reserve limited-capacity tours separately. A combined Stained Glass Museum ticket and a four-venue Ely Passport are available, subject to each venue’s opening. Qualifying full-price visitors can request the annual-pass upgrade on the day.
- Access and getting around
- The west entrance has ramps; most ground-floor areas are level or ramped, though stone floors can be uneven. An accessible toilet is in the Processional Way. Ask about limited loan wheelchairs and companion tickets. Tower tours use narrow spiral stairs and are separate from the ground-floor route.

- Under-16s enter free with a parent in a family group. For younger children, choose a few features rather than the whole building. Octagon tours cannot take under-tens; check the full participation conditions before booking for older children.
