Visit the genuinely free Headhunters Railway Museum and follow local words and public art through the town, keeping paid castle and estate visits separate.
Headhunters is the main indoor starting point for a free Enniskillen visit. The railway museum shares its premises with a barbers on Darling Street, but visitors do not have to buy a haircut. Ordinary admission is free, with donations welcome. Ask about current opening before travelling and use the leaflet to follow the railway objects and reconstructed settings. The upstairs model railway may be a particular attraction for families, but its second-floor position matters if anyone cannot manage stairs. Check which parts of the collection suit your group rather than assuming the whole museum has the same access. Groups wanting a guided talk should arrange it in advance; that is different from an ordinary independent visit. Outside, the Walking on Words stones provide a useful route through the main streets. Pick a few around Darling Street and continue towards Belmore Street only as far as feels comfortable. Their phrases and names connect the town with local people and stories, without requiring admission to a building. Keep to public streets and respect the premises around the artwork. Free visitor information at Enniskillen Castle should not be confused with free entry to its museum complex. The castle ticket and Castle Coole’s estate admission are paid, so neither is included here. Theatre tickets, boat trips, travel and meals are also separate costs. For a shorter no-admission-fee outing, combine Headhunters with nearby word stones when the museum is open; in unsuitable weather, focus on the museum rather than stretching a street walk to fill the day.

Visit the railway collection at 5 Darling Street, where signs, equipment and reconstructed railway settings recall the lines that once served Fermanagh. This unusual museum shares its premises with a working barbers, but a haircut is not required to look around. Use the visitor leaflet to follow the collection at your own pace.
Look for the Walking on Words stones along and around the main streets between Belmore Street and Darling Street. Their local names, phrases and literary connections give purpose to a short town walk, with shops and historic streets around you. Follow a manageable section rather than feeling obliged to locate all twenty-one stones.
