FALMOUTH GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Small boats, harbour stories & changing tides / FALMOUTH

National Maritime Museum Cornwall

Explore Falmouth’s relationship with the sea through boats, local histories and hands-on displays at Discovery Quay. The harbour-facing Lookout and underwater Tidal Zone give different perspectives on the same water. Choose a few galleries to explore properly rather than trying to read every display across five levels.

Before you go

Use this as the main indoor stop, leaving time for a lunch break. Ask which galleries and family activities are available that day; temporary exhibitions change.

Access and getting around
The entrance is level and the five floors are usually reached by lift or ramp. Accessible toilets and baby changing are on the first and second floors. Check lift status and the sensory map before visiting; ask staff about the quiet space and available ear defenders. The approach across the square includes cobbles.

Visiting with children
The rescue displays and play zone offer a change from reading labels. Keep the visit flexible around children’s interests and allow time for food. Under-fives enter free; older children need the relevant ticket. Check dates for holiday performances and quieter sessions.
