Make the maritime museum your longer indoor anchor, or spend a quieter hour with art on The Moor. Keep the wet street transfers short and treat the castle and ferry as weather-dependent choices.
The maritime museum is the simplest starting point for a longer wet-weather visit. Choose the galleries that interest you, take breaks and allow two or three hours rather than rushing straight through. The harbour remains part of the experience through the Lookout and Tidal Zone, although what you see depends on conditions. Take lunch nearby or check the museum café’s service hours before relying on it. The free art gallery offers a smaller alternative at the other end of the central shopping streets. An hour with the displays and lunch around The Moor can make a complete short outing. To combine both museums, allow around twenty to thirty minutes for the outdoor transfer through town, plus a proper meal break. Check the gallery calendar first, especially on Sundays and bank holidays, and finish one building well rather than arriving at the other just before closing. Pendennis has interiors but also exposed grounds, steps and an outdoor approach; it is not a substitute for an entirely indoor day. Ferry boats may offer covered seating, but boarding is outside and sailings depend on weather and tide. Leave the beach and gardens for a break in conditions. If access or sensory needs shape your choice, ask the museums about lifts, quieter times and current support. For the shortest version, choose one open museum and lunch and leave the second stop for another day.

Explore Falmouth’s relationship with the sea through boats, local histories and hands-on displays at Discovery Quay. The harbour-facing Lookout and underwater Tidal Zone give different perspectives on the same water. Choose a few galleries to explore properly rather than trying to read every display across five levels.
Spend an hour with the gallery’s changing displays and the works selected from its collection. This compact civic gallery offers a different pace from the maritime museum: take time with a few pictures, talk about what catches your eye and try a sketch. A famous work in the collection may not be on display when you visit.
Explore the Tudor artillery fortress and later defences on the headland above Falmouth. The open grounds help explain why this position mattered, while the keep brings the military story into a much smaller, stair-filled building. This is a substantial outdoor visit as well as a historic interior.
