HAMILTON GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

A hunting lodge, woodland and the Avon valley / NEAR HAMILTON

Chatelherault Country Park

Make a separate trip to Ferniegair for the country park, choosing between the lodge area, play and a longer woodland route. The hunting lodge gives the landscape a striking focal point, while paths reach into a much larger valley setting. Pick the route for its terrain and available time rather than treating every trail as an extension of the formal grounds.

Before you go

The visitor centre and lodge have different opening patterns. The lodge is currently listed Sunday–Thursday, so do not promise interior access on every park visit.

The practical details

Where to find it
Ferniegair, near Hamilton, ML3 7UE; approach from Carlisle Road
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Ordinary visitor-centre and lodge admission is free, with their current days and times listed separately by the operator. Organised activities, refreshments and parking arrangements should be checked independently.
Access and getting around
Access varies between visitor-centre areas, formal grounds, woodland and gorge routes. The play area includes bark surfaces and stepped levels. Consult the current access information for your chosen route rather than assuming the whole park is level.

Visiting with children
The adventure play area and a shorter walk can form a practical family visit. Choose equipment and paths that suit ages and mobility, keeping children close near steep ground and river routes. Do not assume a long woodland loop is needed after play.

Practical information checked 16 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 1–3 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
