Castlerigg Stone Circle
The stone circle sits in an open field with a wide fell backdrop east of Keswick. Walk around the stones and look at how their arrangement relates to the surrounding skyline; the appeal is the setting as much as the archaeology. Keep it as a separate short outing with its own journey allowance, especially if you are walking from town.
English Heritage asks visitors to take particular care on muddy, slippery ground. Limited roadside parking can fill; do not block the road or rely on a space being available.
