Derwent Water foreshore & Friar’s Crag
Walk out from the boat landings for an introduction to Derwent Water at shore level. The view opens towards Borrowdale, with the surrounding fells giving shape to the lake. Choose a short out-and-back stroll and time on a bench; this is a satisfying outing without taking on a mountain or the whole lakeshore circuit.
The optional viewpoint has steep drops, a narrow section and limited turning room. Turn back earlier if the final approach does not suit your group, and check conditions after heavy rain.

- Start at Keswick boat landings, south of Lakeside car park, Keswick.

- No admission ticket for the walk. Parking, refreshments and launch tickets are separate. Allow daylight for the return.
- Access and getting around
- The Trust describes a stile-free foreshore loop, with a smoother inland option. Friar’s Crag itself narrows to 87cm with restricted turning space; this is not a blanket wheelchair-accessible viewpoint. Read the mapped route and assess current surfaces.

- Keep children close at the water and viewpoint edges. A foreshore stop is enough for a short family outing; do not make reaching the crag a target.
