River Nidd Waterside walk
See the railway viaduct from river level and follow a chosen stretch of Waterside past the boat landings and cafés. This gives a different perspective from the castle above: the arches, houses and river become the focus. It works as a short out-and-back stroll rather than requiring a long gorge walk.
Choose how you will return uphill before descending from the town. Bebra Gardens and the cliffside steps are steep; leave time and energy for the climb or arrange a different return route.

- The public walk has no admission charge. Rowing boats and cafés are separate businesses with seasonal and weather-dependent operation. Do not assume boat hire is available or that a ticket includes someone to row. The railway viaduct itself is not a pedestrian walkway.
- Access and getting around
- Approaches from the upper town involve hills or steps. Waterside includes shared street space and river edges; check a route suited to your mobility and avoid flooded sections. Continuing along Abbey Road introduces stretches without a pavement.

- Watch the trains and boats from the bank without needing to hire one. Supervise children near the river and road. Boat operators set their own boarding, age and safety arrangements, which need checking separately.
