Lavenham’s historic gas holder

Pause at the restored gas holder and its interpretation to discover a later chapter of Lavenham’s history than the medieval cloth trade. The surviving structure explains how the village once produced and stored gas for lighting. This is a brief outdoor stop beside a working car park, not an indoor gasworks museum.

Add it only if your route already brings you down Water Street. Fifteen minutes is enough for a look and the information board; it does not need a separate long outing.

Tickets and booking: No separate admission ticket for the public exterior and interpretation. Follow on-site restrictions and current parking signs. The surviving gas holder is the attraction; the other original gasworks buildings are not open museums.
Access and getting around: Viewing is from the public car-park area. Watch for moving vehicles and do not climb barriers or machinery. The approach along Water Street has narrow pavement sections; no dedicated accessible visitor route or toilet is promised.
