Lavenham Woodland Walk

Follow the National Trust’s circular route from the Guildhall through community woodland and a section of the former railway. It offers a change from indoor displays, with time to notice trees and the surrounding countryside. Follow the named loop back into Lavenham instead of drifting onto the longer route to Long Melford.

Before you go

Carry the official route map and allow extra time beyond its ninety-minute estimate for rests. The return includes a potentially busy road section, so read the complete directions before starting.

Tickets and booking: No admission ticket for the walking route. Check weather, daylight and local notices, and use the official map. Toilets and refreshments in the village have their own hours. This is the 2.8-mile circular walk, not the separate one-way Long Melford route.
Access and getting around: The operator grades the route easy but explicitly says its uneven woodland terrain is unsuitable for wheelchairs. Tree roots and mud can make footing awkward, and the road section needs care. The grade is not a promise of a smooth pushchair route.

Visiting with children: Choose it for children comfortable with a sustained walk and the road section. Bring drinks, a snack and suitable shoes; wildlife sightings vary by season and are never guaranteed. Keep dogs under close control.
