Crom estate

Make a separate trip to the National Trust’s Crom estate for woodland, views across Upper Lough Erne and the old castle ruins. The appeal is the landscape and its wildlife, with routes that can be shortened or extended without treating every island or path as a compulsory target.

Before you go

This visit is to the estate and old ruins. Do not assume admission includes a tour of the modern private Crom Castle.

Where to find it: Crom, near Newtownbutler, about seven miles from Lisnaskea

Tickets and booking: Estate admission is paid for non-members. Check seasonal facilities and opening before travelling; the Newtownbutler bus stop is not at the estate gate. The tearoom currently takes cash.
Access and getting around: A short green route of about 0.7km reaches the old ruins; other paths have different surfaces. Ask about the two bookable mobility scooters and suitable routes. Some toilets are seasonal; the car park includes gravel.

Visiting with children: Choose a short route with time to look at trees, birds and ruined walls. Supervise children beside the lough and do not approach the day as unsupervised swimming or castle climbing.
