Dinefwr Castle and parkland
Walk through the estate towards the castle to explore a place closely associated with the rulers of Deheubarth. The wooded approach and hilltop setting give the surviving walls their meaning. You can choose a parkland outing without making the castle climb, while Newton House is a different, paid visit within the same estate.
Before you go
The castle approach is steep in parts and Cadw grades the terrain strenuous. Check Cadw’s castle hours separately from the National Trust’s wider parkland opening.

- Castle and general parkland access are free; estate parking charges apply unless an exemption or membership covers them. Newton House, its garden and café have separate admission. Cadw currently lists castle opening 10am–4pm, with last admission half an hour before closing; confirm the date.
- Access and getting around
- The woodland approach takes roughly twenty minutes from the estate area and can be steep, rooted or muddy. Castle levels and steps are not a step-free route; ask the National Trust about a suitable lower estate walk instead.

- Choose the climb only for children comfortable with uneven paths and close supervision. The lower estate and Oak Yard can offer a shorter alternative without completing the castle route.
